Art and others,
I was able to get past this problem, but I don't know what I did that made the
difference.
My course of action was similar to Art's, with one exception.
*** NOTE THAT I'M NOT RECOMMENDING THIS, JUST REPORTING IT ***
I first sync'ed and established the user name with my PC.
Then I tried to sync @ work and got the "modification of ..." message. Did
several syncs, tried installs, same error.
I sync'ed to my PC at home and experienced some strange behavior (long story,
I'll save you the grief). I did a HARD RESET on the new IIIc and sync'ed it
again at home, re-establishing the user name.
The next day, I was able to sync to my U10 at work.
I was lucky, I was able to restore/recreate everything, but you must be very
familiar with the way your Palm files are stored and tread carefully so that
files are not lost.
BOTTOM LINE: As I review my actions, the only thing I can see that I did
different from other folks on the alias with this problem is the hard reset.
That MAY be the answer. This is still not the 'root cause' of this problem, but
a possible workaround.

need some help. My old PalmPilot died recently, so I bought a Palm Vx as a
replacement. But I have not be able to get Pilotmgr to talk to it.
