Problems connecting to mail server

hello, 

I'm trying to sync my palm pilot to my solaris dt calendar.  during setup and while synching it keeps telling me:

 SyncCM can't examine the attributes for 'tjackson@hutch'
                    Either you do not have appropriate permissions for this
                    calendar or your calendar (and calendar server) needs to
                    be updated to the CDE standard.
		    Error: fail at ./PilotManager line 2242

i've set this up for lots of folks in my office and have never come accross this error before.  the calendar is stored on a calendar server (remote) but the calendar tool can access it just fine.

any ideas?
