Re: is pilotmgr still being worked on?
Steve, I am new to this list so I apologize for the reply list if it is incorrect.
I have Sun's and Linux. As you said Pilot Manager has not been
worked on for awhile and it is not currently working for Linux. At
least not the version for Perl 5.003. The distribution site (Under
Linux Perl 5.003) has TK 5.002 in the ftp location where they
should have 5.003. I have not tried it yet but perhaps the 5.004
versions are all correct. You need to upgrade to Perl 5.004 before
you can try it however. Its a shame Perl and Tk have created a
maintenance monster with problems larger than those created by
writing the code in C and dealing with the system differences. It is
very difficult to run different versions of Perl on the same system to
be able to support different applications (not just Pilot) so I am
unable to use the Pilot under Linux until the problems with the Pilot
Manager site for version 5.003 are repaired. Since the original
developer has left Sun, another person took over. I suspect since
he also works for Sun that the Sun versions are in better shape
with Linux being worked on as time allows. You are correct when
you say you are not alone. In the free software world you either
wait for the programs or you do have the option to do it yourself. I
think its amazing that someone even wrote this for the Sun let
alone Linux. I would be great if I could get off of Windoze95 though.
Pilot and Pegasus e-mail are my only applications on Windoze95.
(No I do not like Xmail!) Everything else I have is Sun or Linux
nowadays.
