solution found to -halts at "Retrieving User Information"-



FYI.  In case anyone else runs into the -halts at "Retrieving User Information"- 
problem.  The solution was to power down my SPARCstation 10 and then to power it 
back up.  Symptoms are listed below from my original posting.

Apparently something had good wrong with the software for the serial port on my 
machine when the calendar sync stopped due to the server not being available.

My thanks to multiple people who helped me trouble shoot this problem.
