Thanks to all who responded earlier and especially to Muthu Vairavan. Here's what
I did, and I'm now able to synchronize my Clié with my Ultra.
1. As Muthu recommended, get the Clié "Serial Sync Cable." It comes
from Hong Kong via registered mail, so someone has to receive it
for you at home; the US Postal Service won't leave registered mail
without a signature.
2. At Radio Shack, you can get a "Double-Shielded RS-232C Cable,
Male DB25 to Female DB9." This connects directly to a 25-pin
serial port on the back of the Ultra.
3. Also at Radio Shack, you can get a "Gender Adapter, Male DB9
to Male DB9." You need this to connect the DB9 ends of the RS-232C
cable and the Clié sync cable, which are both female.
Once you have connected the cables, you can install the software as indicated at
<http://pilotmgr.corp/public_html/pilotmgr/>. Then, after you select and
configure the synchronization conduits you want (e.g., calendar, address book),
it really works!
Thanks again, everyone.
-Todd.
