While it may defeat some of the utility of the soft pouch,
why not try taping a piece of cardboard inside the pouch
where the screen fits?

I've had two IIIes and now a HE330, all with the hard flip
covers, and have never had this problem.

Good question! Does the case have the pivot holes near the
top on the outsides?
The HE330 flip cover does unfortunately cover the side
button, so you can't activate the Voice Pad with the cover
closed. I'll be fixing that next time I'm in the shop.
