[PilotMgr] problems writing appinfo on new conduit

I'm trying to write a new todo conduit for the Emacs' todo-mode.el.
I'm feeling pretty OK about it.  Most of the code is written (although
not working).  Right now I'm trying to focus on updating the pilot's
ToDoDB.  I can write all the __RECORDS to the pilot, but I corrupt the
categories.

I was hoping someone could take a look at my code.  I've posted it at
