That not quite true. If your PilotManager is based on a newer pilot-link
(newer than 0.9.2) and you have the latest Palm Desktop installed on NT
(later than 3.01, 3.0 will NOT work, you can get the latest desktop at
http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/dt301.html) you can download
network hotsync (http://palm.3com.com/custsupp/downloads/netsync.html),
install the netsync.prc onto your pilot (if you have an PalmOS version
>=3.3 you may already have netsync built into the OS if you happen to
have an english version of the OS)

Then you have to configure the Hotsync application on the palm to use
a network connection instead of a direct serial connection. I'm just
describing things here informally since I have a non-english OS-Version,
so my menu-entries have different names..
+ name and address and optionally subnet mask of the workstation running
  PilotManager
+ LANSync instead of local HotSync
+ Network instead of direct modem connection

Then PilotManager must be configured to use the network. Do this by
specifying "." (a dot without the quotes) as the Pilot-Port in the
properties dialog.

Then put the pilot into the cradle, run PilotManager on the workstation
(and press the hotsync-button in PilotManager). When pressing the
HotSync Button on the cradle the Pilot should connect via network to the
Workstation running PilotManager. The new Palm Desktop acts as a relay.
