I'm using it now. Things I've noticed so far:
- Installation failed apparently because the pdasync.bin script has the
wrong value for extracting the imbedded uuencoded file. I did it all by
hand following the script itself. The thing I did differently was:
tail +239 pdasync.bin > pdasync.tar.Z.uue
instead of:
tail +236 pdasync.bin > pdasync.tar.Z.uue
This just makes the sums match. The file would have been uudecode'able
anyway.
- The conduits included are implemented as .jar files. I guess I've
always preferred the idea of conduits being `any executable' but perl/tk
was fine and accessible to me. I'm not sure of the APIs I'll need to
write java conduits. (eg. I'd like to still use SyncMidi, SyncFood,
SyncQMate....)
- I bit the bullet and did the "Datebook erase" so it could "...give [me]
multiline appointments on [my] Pilot. The appointments on [my] Pilot
will be much closer in appearance to the Solaris calendar than
PilotManager's strategy allowed." [pilot-mgrFAQ.txt] So far ok but I
may have chosen too small of a window (the default is +/- 3mos) so some
stuff on my desktop calendar that is further out I won't see on my pilot
until time moves closer. That's ok.
Since I don't use CDE or /usr/dt or anything I guess I'll have to go
hunting for my AddressBook stuff.
- it listens to the port so I can sync just by pressing the hotsync button
on my cradle. Like the daemon mode of PilotManager only it doesn't
continuously timeout and restart while waiting for activity.
- I don't know about running it without the GUI. Probably can't.
My overall thought is that it looks pretty nice...but if I can't
get/read/write conduits for it (and possibly if I can't ever run without
the GUI) I probably won't use it long term.
I'm keeping my last PilotManager backup handy.
