IMHO this is not a bug.
You removed a lot of appointments from your Pilot and it removed them
from your calendar on your desktop - is this not how it is supposed to
work? The whole point is that it syncs the two calendars this is what
it did (even if it did it a bit badly)
Bharat has the correct answer change the date range of your desktop
that gets stored in your Pilot.
