I recommend GREAT CAUTION trying to upgrade to newer versions of pilot.
I did that and have never gotten pilot manager to work as well as it originally
did again.

At this time, I have a lot of hard coded paths to an ancient (5.003) version
of perl .

Note that I attempted to recompile all the various pieces of pilot-link and
pilotmgr with the newer perl, but just kept running into broken behavior
and was unable to locate anyone with time to spend fixing things.
