pilotmgr updates needed?

When I have pilotmgr doing a backup, and need to raise a dtterm or
whatever over it to do some work during the process, I notice that
bringing pilotmgr back to the front ends up with 'damaged' windows.
This means for instance that I am unable to interrupt the process
in the case of some urgent need.

I was thinking that if one invoked a ptk update inbetween
each conduit that the application would probably keep the window
refreshed. Has anyone experimented with resolving this problem?
