I was suspicious that I was loosing items (appointments,
memos, ToDo's, etc.)
I tracked some of the problem down to the PC desktop app.
Avoiding using the PC desktop helped get rid of the
problems. A large part of the problem turned out to be the
combination of a bug/misfeature in the desktop app, Windoze
use of the (godawful) click-to-type mode, and my fumbling
with Windoze.
If you type a Ctrl-X, while the PC dekstop app has focus,
it silently deletes what ever item was highlighted.
It didn't make any backup at all. I believe this is
fixed in the 3.0 desktop. It's still silent, but
it does save the deleted item in the archives.
If you use emacs on the PC, either locally or via some X
emulator, it's very easy to type ctrl-x without realizing it.
What would often happen to me is I would notice that emacs
had a buffer that I hadn't saved, then I'd move the mouse
(without clicking) type Ctrl-X, Ctrl-S. The desktop
would silently cut the current item and then do a "save".
When emacs didn't react, I'd click in the emacs window
and type ctrl-X, ctrl-s again.
