What happens here is that your Sun is echoeing back characters to
the pilot. This could mean bad cabling bu tmore likely is that
you're running login/ttymon on the serial port youv'e conencted to.
The easiest way to change this is to fire up admintool, select serial
ports and switch the tty you're using to "initialize only".

Enter admintool,
pick "serial ports"
click on port a
select "initialize only, no connection" for template.
And if that still doesn't work, you might want to try the above
but also in "expert" mode select "software carrier".
