Re: Netscape and Pilotmgr

Thanks to all who've replied so far. Sounds like there's enough interest to
make this a worthwhile project. If anyone has a lead on the spec for .vcs
files, please let me know. I presume they are some sort of standard, but the
only reference I've seen so far is in the Netscape 'Help' stuff.

The .vcs UID: line indicates which instance of a repeating series this one is
and maintains a sort of serial number that is common to all instances of the
series. So it's possible to identify all the instances and thereby compute
the interval between them. That's a lot of work that could be avoided if
the repetition info is somehow embedded in the serial number. Exceptions
may not be even that easy to recognize. A copy of the .vcs spec could help
resolve this.

My .vcs files appear to store time information as GMT. If your offset
is 5, 6, 7, or 8 hours (which covers most of the continental US, that's the
most likely reason. I suspect Netscape Calendar either stores time internally
in that format or provides it that way on export, which may be how the
plugin works. They may also not be handling the change to/from DST correctly.

This is exactly the problem I'm faced with -- syncing with folks on PC's,
Sun's and other platforms.
