I didn't get any solutions for my problem that I sent out last week but
I have a new clue. I wanted to get a backup, just in case, so I had a
friend backup my Palm V to his PC. Since it worked with no errors, I
tried again on the Sun and it started working with both PilotManager
and pilot-xfer.
Does the PC software reset something on the Palm? If it does, could
PilotManager and pilot-xfer be made to do the same reset.
All I have are questions no answers.

Subject: [PilotMgr] PilotManager and pilot-xfer problems
Time to ask the experts I guess.
I'm using 5.005-02 perl same as I have been, on an Ultra 10 running
Solaris 2.6 with CDE. Palm V with 3.1.
I was getting failures with PilotManager, my last good sync was on
6/27. Since I was going on vacation the week of 7/2 I switched to
pilot-xfer to get a backup before I left. I got a good backups with
pilot-xfer on 6/30 and figured I would fix things when I got back.
Well I'm back and stumped. After a reboot, just to be sure the TTY
port wasn't being used by some other program I still get the following
error when running PilotManager:
Error: Can't call method "getRecords" on an undefined value at
/tilde/bollman/bin/PilotStuff-UNIX/pilotmgr/SyncCM/pilot.pm line 133.
Line 133 is: $max = $pilot_dbhandle->getRecords();
Then the other conduits fail with Unable to open 'XXXXDB'. Aborting!
where XXXX is what ever DB it is trying to sync. The Backup conduit
fails also claiming many of the DBs do not exist. I also got "Weird
packet" in the window where I started PilotManager.
I tried starting clean with an empty .pilotmgr directory and that
didn't help.
Switching to pilot-xfer, so I can at least get a backup from vacation I
get failures with weird packet errors.
I haven't changed any of my setup till today when I downloaded a fresh
set of PilotManager files and reinstalled but that didn't help. The
only other things I can think of is: a hard reset, I'd rather not since
I don't have a current backup and I'm not sure I can restore with the
way things are running; try backing up to a Mac or PC, oh the shame of
it all.
Any ideas.
