I sync my calendar to both my Sun and, using the Palm desktop, to my PC at
home. It mostly works. I used to lose an occasional appointment, but it
hasn't happened in a long time. Things I have learned:
- don't sync a date range; both I and friend lost massive amounts of data
one time doing this (the pilot was cleaned out -- luckily we were able to
recover from the Sun). It works fine 99% of the time,... and we never
figured out what causes the problem.
- repeating appointments are a problem. They are treated differently on
the Palm and on the Sun calendar. As others have said, it is best to
modify a repeating appt on the device it was created on. I think that
most/all of my other lost appointments were repeating appts.
- I do get occaisional duplicates. I've learned to live with this.
- I now check that my syncs haven't deleted anything. After doing a sync,
I
cd /home/<self>/.pilotmgr/SyncCM
tail SyncCM.log
I pay particular attention to any deletions. I find that there are a set
of appointments in 1998 that cycle through being added to either the Sun
or the Palm, and then deleted, so sometimes I have them twice and
sometimes not at all. I have tried deleting the appointments in both
places and they still get recreated. It's like there are gremlins in the
machine. But they are old appointments, and it doesn't seem to happen to
anything more recent.

|Are there any issues with using both the PilotManager on my sun at work,
and
|the Palm desktops software on a PC to sync my Pilot?
|
|Is anyone doing this?
|
|Is it a recommended practice or not?
|
|Thanks in advance.
