Re: About Palm V and OS 3.3

Well, the short quick answer is... nothing that you can't already patch
using other programs. The only difference being that the changes are
now in the flash ROM and not in volatile memory and so it does not use
up valuable memory on the PDA. There is also a speed issue here in that
now the programs are run in Flash (as the core program) the organiser
runs a lot faster. I only had two of the patches installed on my palm
III but I must say that now I have upgraded to OS3.3 my Palm runs a lot
lot quicker...

Here is what 3com are saying the improvements are...

- Faster HotSync® Operations
Cradle-based HotSync® operations can now take place at 115,200 bps,
twice the previous maximum speed. Your handheld automatically connects
as fast as possible.

- Infrared (IR) HotSync® Operations
You don?t need cables to perform HotSync® operations with your laptop
while you are on the road. Synchronize with a computer that has an IR
port.

- IrCOMM Implementation
The IR capabilities of your handheld are even broader. Palm OS[tm]
Software 3.3 supports the IrCOMM implementation of the IrDA standards.
Any device that supports the IrCOMM standard - for example, your
Ericsson cell phone - can communicate with your handheld.

- Euro Currency Support
Enter the euro character the same way you would any other character:
using the onscreen keyboard, Graffiti® writing, or the Palm[tm] Desktop
organizer software. Use the euro like any other currency in Palm[tm]
Expense and all other applications for your handheld.

- Improved Serial Manager
Flexibility: perform IR HotSync operations on the road or at home, and
continue to use your cradle in the office. New Connection Preferences
screen reflects all the ways you can stay connected: network, modem,
infrared, and serial port. More flexibility for serial port connections
- use COM ports higher than COM4 if available.

- Includes Login Script Enhancements
Enables access to a wider range of secure network systems that use
token-based authentication. The handheld helps you to access
confidential business information.

- Includes Update 3.1.1 Enhancements
The Palm OS[tm] Software 3.3 Upgrade includes system patch 3.1.1, which
corrects minor issues with screen refresh rates and clicking noises that
occur when the cover presses buttons on your handheld.

- Future Upgrade Support
The upgrade utility included with this package allows future upgrades of
the system software in your handheld. This is accomplished by storing
new software to the read-only memory (ROM) in your device (also called
flash ROM).

I hope this helps
