My original Post:

I have started Pilotmgr to sync for a new user and it stalls (fails to do
anything else after I press the sync button). The message I am getting in a
popup window is to give it a user name. I already have a user name in the
Palm Pilot. what am I missing?

SOLUTION:

Once I cranked up PilotMgr from a command line, I got a error message:

glob failure in pilotmgr.pm: line #

I chased my tail around because sync'ing the same unit in a different
cradle, on different desktop worked. Sync'ing my old Palm III on the
suspect cradle failed so I deduced it had to be something to do with the
desktop it was connected to. I was right. The only difference, aside from
the Palm Pilot's (one is a III and the new one is a IIIx) was that the
desktop where it was failing is a Sparc 5. I sudenly realized the problem
was that the port speed was set too high --- 115,200.

I turned the port speed down to 19,200 and *it worked*!! I then turned it up
to 34,700 and it still worked. Then I remebered that the list archive had
some discussion regarding this and now all is well.

Just confirmed that the authors really knew what they were doing because a
fresh install of the package has the default setting for the port at 9600;
slow but it works.

Thanks to Carl Jacobsen <carl@xxxxxxxx> and Hal DeVore
<haldevore@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> for their suggestions and the authors for a great
little 'package.'

Kevin
