I took a look at malsync and AvantGo but have moved to using iSilo and a
cronjob (using lynx) to fetch desired web pages as needed, convert them to
iSilo format and put them in my Installer directory.

I find this gets me the web pages I want (like what AvantGo does) at a
significantly reduced memory footprint and shorter sync time.  Further it
seems to better fit the `keep in sync with desktop' motif of the Pilot.

Though this doesn't directly answer your question, it may provide an
alternative solution for your need.  It certainly has in my case.
