Agree 100%. Fortunately, there is assistance for our esteemed
developers.
Our friends at Sun have recently come out with the Java Look and
Feel Design Guidelines
<http://java.sun.com/products/jlf/dg/index.htm>. There are some
pretty good ideas there, and it has been well thought out and
generally compatible with existing software. Most of the stuff in
there is sufficiently general enough to apply here (and everywhere!)
I encourage all GUI designers to familiarize themselves with this
document as long as we're stuck with WIMP interfaces.
Also, are there design guidelines for Gnome? That would be another
possible direction.
