The problem might be more complicated, unfortunately. Apparently,
people using BackupBuddy (a windows backup utility) noticed the same
problem with HandyShopper, and they claim the .pdb has to be installed
*before* the .prc. He was specific on the point. At bottom is a post
to comp.sys.palmtops.pilot.
For the record, the author states for handyshopper v1.6:
"FIXED: v1.05 would crash if you tried to restore the Palm device after a
Hard Reset. This was due to an inappropriate optimization setting I had
turned on in the CodeWarrior compiler. This was not the same problem as
the crash that was fixed in v1.02, but the symptoms were the same.
Turning off the compiler option fixed the problem."
Well, I had my crash with v1.6, so I guess he didn't really fix the
problem. It's open source, so I'm not complaining. I'll contact the
author about it, or maybe I'll look at the code sometime.
Does anyone know if this (pdb before prc) will work for all apps? If
not, I don't think anyone should take time modifying the PilotManager
installer conduit yet.
