Alarm Question

This q. not related to PilotManager, but here goes anyway

Am I missing something blindingly obvious... but how can I make
my Palm IIIx switch on and alarm when an appointment is due.

The alarm only sounds and shows me the alert me when I switch on the
next time! This seems a bit pointless! I searched the manual but
didn't find anything, and no amount of playing with options can make it
happen for me

I don't currently have any kernel hacks if that makes a difference
