some comments and clarifications:
- /usr/dist/exe/perl can be different in different ENS regions in the
Sun world, they need not be the same version.
- the utility is free, hence one cannot expect error-free perfection, agreed.
- the tools is definitely more difficult to install and to use than the
W95 or Mac commercial sync tools.
- everybody seems to laugh at the fact that I consider a 1 hour installation
for a 'freeware' utility a waste of time. I'm not aware of any utility
in the last couple of years that would take more than a couple of minutes
to install and use. I have to admit however that I have been using a Apple
Mac now for years at home and therefore my love for Unix as a desktop system
is not that strong any more.
- I still don't understand why a guy (the original mail from someone @t-online...)
points you to things that need improvement and your reaction is
"what a good laugh". Such comments (even if the wording was harsh) deserve
attention, instead he is told "get lost, Unix is a place for real specialists"
(I would have felt that way being in his place).
- we (Sun) are definitely not in the position to scare away potential Solaris
desktop users; as you know people do have a choice.
- I wish to end this discussion here - at least I will leave it - as the whole
thing simply is not important to me.
