IMHO the guy makes the mistake of being very undiplomatic and failing to
realise that authors of software like PilotManager have done us a great
service for free - discouraging emails such as this _can_ do great harm
to the motivation of program authors.

However, there is a kernal of truth in here - for users of other
platforms, setting things up in the unix environment can seem relatively
tricky with installation of multiple packages required and compilation
of programs. I haven't actually used PilotManager yet (though I find
pilot-link very useful).
I don't have the power to install packages like perl on our machines,
and it is hard to justify getting the IT department to do anything on an
unsanctioned package which doesn't benefit anyone else here.
I am also very short of time to try and install it (I think I have perl
installed somewhere now), and have a PC at home, so don't need it that
badly.
I'm not blaming anyone! - That's just the way it is.

People like me who haven't got it up and working probably mostly stay
silent, or resign the list... but anything that makes setup and
installation easier (like the excellent web pages) is much appreciated.
