Have you installed the 2.0.5 OS upgrade?  My wife had this problem with her
PalmPilot Pro until we installed the upgrade.  I've noticed that the first
time you sync with the Pilot Desktop software on the CD that comes with it,
it installs the OS upgrade automatically - depending on which rev of the
CD you got.
