PalmPilot Battery Problem

Hi,

I have a perplexing problem. Everytime I change my 
Pilot's batteries, I lose all my data.

The owner's manual says I have a minute to install fresh 
batteries while the built-in power source stores the data
in memory, but this doesn't seem to work on my PalmPilot Personal
(just upgraded with 2MB PalmIII OS upgrade).

After installing a new set of Alkalines, I tried removing them
and replacing them immediately - same results, my data was
lost (good thing I have PilotManager to restore a backup!)

Any help is appreciated.
