create a directory /usr/pkg and put a symbolic link inside that directory to 
your perl directory   ex  /usr/pkg/perl5.003 ----> /usr/perl    

AS ROOT

mkdir /usr/pkg

inside /usr/pkg type:  ln -s perl5.003 /usr/perl (OR WHEREVER YOU INSTALLED 
PERL)
