Tom --
The CDE calendar doesn't have an effective way of indicating when
the first appointment is in your calendar, so when you say Sync All
it starts in 1970 and moves forward. That's why the first 75% goes
by quickly. Removing the network dependancy I'm also curious why
it takes 23 seconds for your remaining 21 appts. It could be that
your home machine is slow (sparc 2?) and is having a hard time
supporting the client (which is somewhat thick). The remote server
could be running slowly, and when you copied it locally you might
just be further overloading your home machine.
The main problem is that the CDE calendar does not support synching
easily. It doesn't have flags for deleted or modified records so
SyncCM has to go through every single appointment to build up a database
for each sync. This is frustratingly slow, but it is a problem
with the calendaring system (the same problem existed for the old
OpenLook calendar).
The thing to do would be to go back to your work calendar server
and snoop the network to see what the net traffic is like. Bring up
a perfmon on your local machine and check out the CPU and memory
usage. If the CPU is not pegged and memory is not full (ie, you're
not swapping like mad) then it's not a client problem. If you're
not seeing a lot of net traffic then the problem is probably the
remote server running slowly.
