I'll second that one.  I'm all in favor of finding the most global standard
one can find to base a programming project around.  While there might be a
more global address book standard perhaps in the Windows world (who
knows...  who cares!), Netscape's address book format is certainly an
excellent place to start.  Even if there ended up being an even better
"standard" address book format to use, at least you'd also have code that
read and wrote Netscape format in addition to whatever else...
