PilotManager News 4/23/1998 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Alan.Harder@Sun.COM www.moshpit.org/pilotmgr ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction - PilotManager is a tool that allows you to synchronize databases on your 3Com PalmPilot with applications on your Unix platform. It is a full Hotsync daemon that is user extensible. Developers can write their own conduits to synchronize Pilot databases with the desktop application of their choice! PilotManager was originally written by Bharat Mediratta (Bharat@Visto.Com) and is currently developed and supported by Alan Harder (Alan.Harder@Sun.Com). ============================================================================= Headlines - Hi everyone, just some quick news items today. * PilotManager and the Palm III - no problem!! * Web page update! Restructured main page, new FAQ list and one new FAQ page. * pi-address 0.1.6 binary for solaris(sparc) on web page! * Advanced warning of alias change... ============================================================================= PilotManager and the Palm III - no problem!! I now have a Palm III and have had no problems using PilotManager with it. I used the Installer conduit to transfer all my data onto the new model and have been using it for all my hotsyncs this week. (FYI the only things I found that don't work on the P3 were AlarmHack and HushHack) ============================================================================= Web page update! I restructured the first page on the web site a little bit. I just categorized the items into a table to make it easier to find what you're looking for. I also added a list of the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) pages, and added a NEW FAQ: How to restore a reset Pilot. Check it out! ============================================================================= pi-address 0.1.6 binary for solaris(sparc) on the web page. pi-address is an address manager tool made for working with your Pilot data. Right now it cannot *synchronize* with the pilot but can do a full transfer from pilot->workstation or workstation->pilot. I'm working with the author to integrate the tool with SyncAB so that full sychronization will be possible. Please note that the Import/Export CSV options in this tool are not yet fully functional. They were written to work with CSV data as written by the pilot-addresses program in the pilot-link package, and will NOT work with CSV output from SyncAB. Also note that a new release of this software is expected to come out soon, so check back for an updated binary in the coming weeks. Solaris binary at: www.moshpit.org/pilotmgr/binaries/misc pi-address page: linux.in-berlin.de/pia If you have trouble running it try: % setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/openwin/lib:/usr/dt/lib % ./pi-address ============================================================================= Advanced warning of alias change... Thanks to advanced planning by Bharat in creating the name "pilotmgr.corp.sun.com", there were no problems (well, few problems) when Bharat left sun even though the real machine name hosting the aliases changed. However, this June I will be changing from the "corp" domain at Sun to the "eng" domain... This means that these will be the new aliases: pilotmgr@pilotmgr.eng.sun.com pilotmgr-request@pilotmgr.eng.sun.com pilotmgr-author@pilotmgr.eng.sun.com owner-pilotmgr@pilotmgr.eng.sun.com In June I will put out a patched 1.106 release with these new emails in the code. I will maintain forwarding from pilotmgr.corp as long as possible. More info to come on this later! ============================================================================= That's it for today! - Alan
