CDE question.

Hi all-

Our site is using CDE from Triteal which seems to be way
behind CDE from Sun. Our current version of TED is 4.2.2.

  $ /usr/ccs/bin/mcs -p /usr/dt/lib/libcsa.so
  /usr/dt/lib/libcsa.so:

  "CDEVersion1.0.10":sparc:06Apr97-23:04:46

When we upgrade to Solaris 2.6, I am almost sure we will
continue using CDE/TED from Triteal - /usr/dt -.
Can I install CDE 2.1 from SUN on a non-default location
and setup some environment variable so that PilotManager/
SyncCM can find CDE 2.1 from SUN on a non-standard path.

Anyways I think I am dead until we upgrade to Solaris 2.6
(not anytime soon) from Solaris 2.5.1 since the version of
CDE that works with PilotManager/SyncCM ("CDEVersion1.1":sparc:
12Jun97-01:50:01) is not available to non-SUN users.

Other ideas ??

Thanks,
Ricardo

Ok, I hope this little summary will answer all CDE related questions.
If your experience contradicts any of the info below please let me know..
I believe there is someone out there working on a Linux solution, so more
Linux info will be available sometime in the future..

1. What version of Solaris/CDE do I need to run PilotManager 1.100 (latest
   version)??

1A: First of all, PilotManager itself has no specific CDE library
requirements. The right version of CDE is required only to use
SyncCM, the calendar conduit. However, since SyncMemo (and now
SyncFood!) are the only other conduits available, using PilotManager
without SyncCM is often not all that attractive a package..

1B: To use SyncCM, you need either

	*** Solaris 2.6, which includes
	    "CDEVersion1.2":sparc:26Jun97-20:13:32

	OR

*** Solaris 2.5 or 2.5.1 AND a CDE upgrade to
	    "CDEVersion1.1":sparc:12Jun97-01:50:01

       These don't work:

	Solaris 2.5.1 ships with
	    "CDEVersion1.1":sparc:05Mar97-23:46:12 -- WON'T WORK

	Solaris 2.5 ships with
	    "CDEVersion1.0.2":sparc:12Apr96-10:37:44 -- WON'T WORK

2. How do I tell what version of CDE I have?

All of the "CDEVersion1.xxx..." lines above were retrieved with the
   following command:

	prompt# /usr/ccs/bin/mcs -p /usr/dt/lib/libcsa.so

3. How do I get the right version of CDE if I don't have it already?

   OUTSIDE OF SUN:
Unfortunately Sun never released the fixed version of CDE 1.1 (12Jun97)
as a product. Outside of Sun the only way to get a working version
is to upgrade to Solaris 2.6 (sorry!)

   INSIDE SUN:
Submit a request to ENS requesting a CDE upgrade. Specify the entire
version string listed above to make sure you get the right thing.
Unless you are specific ENS might tell you that the 05Mar97 version
	IS the latest version..
You can also upgrade to Solaris 2.6.
